Each female egg capsule can lay up to twenty five bay German Roaches. The female roach releases the egg capsule; it will usually leave it in areas such as crack and crevices, wall voids and behind cabinets. This helps ensure the newly hatched roaches a safe harborage area to mature.

One reason why German Roaches are able to flourish is their non-specific diet. For example, if there is an apartment building that is infested with German Roaches and the people move with all their belongings, the roaches will remain because they will cannibalize other German Roaches.

Many people have the misconception that if you go in and clean really well in a heavily roach infested dwelling that this alone will solve the problem. This is not the case. Roaches will continue to live for months after the area has been vacated.

Another myth about German Roaches is that if you leave the heat off during the winter time that they will die from the cold. German Roaches will migrate towards some type of heat source whether it is the refrigerator fan or an electrical outlet. Another adaptation method of german roaches is where they will cluster together. This enables them to groom themselves as well as other in the colony. This same characteristic is exhibited by ants and termites as well. When applying a pesticide, knowing this will help with eliminating such problems.

Products such as Termidor and Phantom are great for german roaches. Phantom is labeled for indoor use, unlike Termidor, so this in combination with a gel bait will do wonders for heavy German Roach infestations.

Another pest control method that works well with German Roaches is using a dust. The three most commonly used dusts are boric acid, diatomaceous earth and pyrethrum dust. German Roaches have small hairs called cuticles that the dust will stick to. Once the roaches begin cleaning themselves off and cleaning other roaches, the pesticide is ingested. The roaches will them desiccate or dry out and die. A pyrethrum dust will have a faster kill rate because its toxicity level and might eliminate them before they make it back to the nest.

Bat Facts

Bats are the only flying mammals that reside in the order Chiroptera. Some other mammals such as flying squirrels can glide but they cannot sustain lift like bats. The wing of a bat is supported by the upper arm, a long forearm and very long bones in the fingers. The wing membrane is comprised of two very thin layers of skin that help the bats fly. Most bats will roost in an upside down position so they can drop and spread their wings to begin flying.

Most people have heard the common phrase "blind as a bat". This saying is actually far from the truth. In fact, most bat species can see very well. They are able to use their vision in the roost, possibly to locate distant objects and sometimes maybe to find a bite to eat.

The little brown myotis, also known as the little brown bat, is the most common bat to be found in dwellings inhabited by humans such as attic space. The little brown bat is the most common bat species found in the continental US and Canada. They are usually found in manmade structures through the summer months.

Female bats will form large maternity colonies, usually in very hot attic spaces. They usually leave in the fall to return to their place of hibernation such as a cave. Little brown bats can travel between 100 and 400 miles to locate their hibernation place usually in caves. The maximum lifespan of a little brown bat can be up to 40 years old.
